Despite Essendon VFL suffering a six point loss to Richmond on Saturday at windy Hill, there are a number of players that are pushing for senior selection.

We take a look at who’s in the mix for a call-up this week.

David Myers

Myers was the major ball winner for the Dons against Richmond. He finished with 35 disposals, four marks and six tackles.

He has averaged 32 disposals this season and has been named among the best all four times he has played with the VFL side.

An important leader around the Club, Myers experience and footy smarts are highly rated.

Aaron Francis

Francis has played a defensive role in his last two games with the VFL.

On Saturday he stopped multiple entries inside the Tigers forward 50 with his strong marking and tackling ability.

He finished with 16 disposals, three marks and laid two tackles.

Matt Dea

Dea was strong in defence against the Tigers, collecting 17 disposals and six marks.

He stopped Richmond’s run on several occasions with strong tackles and pressure around the contest.

Dea has played six games in the AFL side this season averaging 14 disposals, five marks and two tackles.

Craig Bird

Bird was dominant through the midfield, he finished with 25 disposals, five tackles, two marks and one goal.

He has produced solid performances in each of his nine games in the VFL, averaging 25 disposals.

The midfielder’s ability to push forward and kick goals has also been one of his strengths this season.

Jackson Merrett

Merrett was one of the Dons major goal kickers on Saturday, booting three goals.

He finished with 10 disposals, three marks and two tackles.

Merrett has shown his value in the Bombers forward line, kicking seven goals in his last four games.
