A stellar performance by Ben Howlett in Essendon’s 50-point win over Richmond in the Dreamtime match at the MCG Saturday night has been commended by both coaches in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award.

Howlett’s amazing 25-disposals and five goal performance saw him get the nod from Bomber Thompson and Damien Hardwick, picking up nine votes.

It’s the first time an Essendon player has kicked five or more goals in a match this season.

A solid cameo from Brendon Goddard including 30 disposals and a stellar 11 marks also caught the eye of the coaches, gaining seven votes.
