Joe Daniher and Scott Gumbleton are continuing to put selection pressure on the Bombers AFL forwards according to VFL coach Hayden Skipworth.

Daniher once again showcased his ability both above his head and at ground level against Collingwood on Saturday afternoon booting five goals.

Skipworth said Daniher would continue to push his claims for selection following his performance against the Magpies.

“He has improved which is all we are trying to focus on with all of our young guys is improvement each week and adding things to their game,” he said.

“Joey is up against Scott Gumbleton, Michael Hurley, Paddy Ryder and Stewart Crameri for a spot so it is really competitive for tall forward spots.”

“He is in good form and as well as Scotty they are both putting pressure on these guys in the senior team.”

Gumbleton pulled down 11 marks and 21 disposals playing majority of the second half as a ruck man.

“Initially the plan was to play him mainly forward and as a second ruck but he ended up playing really well as a second ruckman,”

“We gave him a lot more time on the ball in the ruck, he found a lot of footy around the ground and his ruck work especially in the centre bounce was good I thought.”

Skipworth was also impressed by the performance of Hal Hunter who despite playing forward in recent weeks played the majority of the match through the midfield.

“We have been playing him as a forward the last few weeks but today we gave him some more time on the footy and he played really well,” he said.

“He played more as an inside mid today especially in the second half and his aggression and competitiveness towards the footy is something we that we needed.”

Hunter finished with 22 disposals and 8 tackles in what the coach believes was one of his best games this season.

“He is a big body for a young guy as well and he played one of his better games for the year.”

“His decision making can speed up a little bit but he tests fine, he lost a bit of weight this year so he can build on his endurance.”

“His running is something he can get better at but he has improved.”
