Essendon midfielder Ben Howlett looks set for a recall to the senior team after a dominant performance against Sandringham in the VFL on Saturday afternoon.

Howlett put his name in the forefront of the coach’s mind with a best on ground 37 disposals and 11 clearances in the 43-point win.

“He was fantastic, he started the game really well and in particular in the first quarter he was on fire,” VFL Coach Hayden Skipworth told BomberTV.

“To finish the game with 37 touches and 11 clearances is a great result for him.”

Howlett was omitted from the side that took on Collingwood last weekend after an up and down month of football.

Also omitted from the side to take on the Magpies was Tayte Pears who showed his ability as a rebounding defender setting up the Bombers forays forward.

“Tayte has been excellent, every time he has been with us he has been fantastic,” Skipworth said.

“His leadership has been outstanding and he always comes back and performs at a very high level.”

Stewart Crameri managed just one goal against Sandringham but played a full game, something he has struggled with over the last month.

Crameri is expected to receive strong consideration for a return to the AFL side with Michael Hurley likely to miss another week with an ankle injury.

“His first half it took him a while to get into but his second half was better and he hasn’t played a lot of footy so he is finding his feet,” Skipworth said.

“He hasn’t played a lot of VFL footy latest so I thought his second half was really good but his first half was a little bit quieter.”

Alwyn Davey is also in line to return after three weeks at VFL level honing his defensive skills as a forward.

Davey’s pressure was at its outstanding best on Saturday afternoon as he finished the game with three goals.
