Essendon defender Mark Baguley continued his strong form against West Coast on Saturday afternoon with a commanding performance down back.

Baguley once again put in a ruthless display against the Eagles to finish with 24 disposals, nine marks and six tackles for the game.

Teammates David Zaharakis paid tribute to the hard working defender following the win.

“Mark Baguley is the hardest bloke to play on especially at training, guys hate going forward when they have to play on Baggers,” Zaharakis said.

“He is one of those blokes that doesn’t give up and he is deceptively quick with his closing speed being unbelievable.”

“He plays on the small forward types that are real dangerous in the competition and he gets the job done every week.”

“He is one of those players where you know he will bring his best every week and you don’t have to worry about it.”

Baguley has missed just one game this season averaging 18 disposals, three tackles and six marks per game from his 19 appearances.

Zaharakis also commended Michael Hibberd for his work alongside Baguley on Saturday afternoon.

“The two Frankston boys down the back line, it is great to have them as they are both junk yard dogs and both competitive beasts,” he said.

“Hibbo has only played one or two games in the last nine weeks and he is vital for us to get our form back.

“He starts our run off half back, his ball use when he takes the ball through the middle is one of the best you will see.”

“We rate him as an All Australian half back and that is why he is so highly touted in our side.”

Zaharakis credited Hibberd and Heppell with being pivotal in the come from behind win over the Eagles.
