Saturday afternoon was Michael Hurley’s most complete game in the red and black proving he can perform at both ends of the ground.

Hurley finished the win over the Gold Coast with 27 disposals, 12 marks and two goals playing the first three quarters as a defender before moving into the forward line in the last.

Coach Mark Thompson praised his key position player following the 19-point win.

“I wanted two of him today because he was fantastic,” Thompson said.

“He got some goals kicked on him but that was caused from the midfield to. He was outstanding.”

“I liked the way he had a presence, he was everything I wanted him to be down back and then when we put him forward he was fantastic as well.”

“Maybe it gave the team a lot of confidence going in there because they found him.”

Into his sixth season, the 24-year-old had only his third 25 plus possession game of his career.

Hurley has played the majority of this season in defence but was involved in four scores during the last quarter proving his ability to move forward.

Teammate Michael Hibberd continued to sing the praises of his fellow defender after the game.

“I feel like every week I am saying it is the best game he has played because over the last four or five weeks he has just got better and better,” Hibberd said.

“To know that he can still play up forward, have a real impact to score and set up goals as well is a good string to his bow.”

“He is playing awesome.”
