Essendon will enter the National Draft next week with pick 20, a selection it has previously used just three time in recruiting young talent.

Scott Cummings, Dean Solomon and Tom Hislop make up the list of Bombers to have been drafted with selection 20 in past National Draft’s.

It was not until the 1992 National Draft that the club first held pick 20 following a trade that involved sending Richard Ambrose to Sydney.

The selection was then used on an exciting young talent hailing from Swan Districts in the WAFL going on to play 40 games in the red and black.

A highly talented full forward, Cummings booted 83 goals in his time at the Bombers before moving to Port Adelaide at the end of the 1996 season.

He would go on to have a successful career as a full forward, booting 349 goals in his 128 matches at AFL level for Essendon, Port Adelaide and Collingwood.

The Bombers next had the chance to use selection 20 at the draft in 1997 when a young talent from Bendigo caught the eye of recruiters.

That young talent was Dean Solomon who would go on to play 158 matches for the club before finishing his AFL career with 209 games to his name.

Solomon is remembered for his hard at it approach at the football and ability to adapt to a variety of positions depending on what the coach asked of him.

A key component of the club’s 2000 premiership success, Solomon is now working alongside Rodney Eade as an assistant coach with the Gold Coast Suns.

The last time the club held selection 20 in a National Draft was in 2006 when it picked young Tasmanian Tom Hislop.

Hislop would play just seven games for the Bombers before moving to Richmond and finishing his career with 27 AFL matches.

What will the number 20 deliver for the club on Draft night, all will be revealed next Thursday night on the Gold Coast.
