In the lead up to Thusday night’s National Draft on the Gold Coast we take a look back in time at some of the best and worst on draft night for the Bombers.

An influx of Western Australian’s joined the club during the 2007 National Draft with two players from Perth and one from East Fremantle making it onto the club’s senior list.

Entering the draft with four selections, the club had already committed to selecting father/son prospect Darcy Daniher with pick 39.

A mid sized mobile defender, Daniher the son of Anthony, would go on to play just six games in the red and black.

He retired at the end of the 2011 season due to chronic groin problems in an AFL career cut short by injuries.

It was pick 6 that landed Perth youngster David Myers to the club during the first round as an exciting big-bodied midfielder.

After some injury concerns early in his career, Myers has gone on to carve out a strong start to his career at the Bombers with 83 games since his debut in 2008.

It is not only his football skill that has shone out with Myers voted into the club’s leadership group during 2013 in a sign of his respect among his peers.

Pick 23 saw East Pert defender Tayte Pears land at the Bombers following an impressive year in Western Australia.

Pears played just five games in his first season before going on to have a breakthrough 2009 season playing in 23 matches against some of the competitions best forwards.

Injuries have crippled Pears over the since 2009 suffering from foot, lower leg, back and pancreas issues that have all kept him on the sidelines.

A key member on the club’s senior list the 24-year-old will be looking to once again prove himself during the 2015 season.

Perhaps the biggest find of the 2007 draft came at pick 54 when the Bombers decided to take a gamble on East Fremantle forward Cale Hooker.

Hooker would go on to play in defence for the club, becoming one of the premier defenders in the competition throughout 2014, including an All Australian honour.

The 26-year-old has played 111 games and is now one of the most important players picked each week in the Essendon line up.
