We count down some of the key moments from the 2014 season that had all red and black fans excited.

Fletch 379

It was a special occasion to kick off the season for the club with veteran defender Dustin Fletcher equalling games record holder Simon Madden on 379 matches for the Bombers.

After a big build up during the week the night culminated in a convincing win over North Melbourne in front of 42,332 fans at Etihad Stadium.

Captain Jobe Watson ensure Fletcher’s club record 379th game would be an enjoyable one, racking up 38 possessions, including 25 in the first half, to be the dominant player on the ground.

Fletcher finished the evening with 15 disposals and 9 marks in a game where he showcased he still has the ability to match it with the AFL’s best.

In a night of celebration for the red and black, Fletcher completed a lap of honour with his children before being chaired from the ground in front of the adoring Essendon faithful.
