Fighting his way back from an injury interrupted 2014, youngster Will Hams will return to the field on Friday night against Melbourne in the club’s final NAB Challenge game.

After an impressive debut in 2013, Hams was forced to spend the majority of the 2014 season on the sidelines with recurring injury setbacks.

However, after countless hours spent building up his strength and fitness to be match ready, Hams is set to finally get his chance on the field this weekend.

“Will has unfortunately had a lot of injury problems over the last 12 months but it’s fantastic to see him back,” said coach James Hird.

Selected in the 2013 Pre-Season Rookie Draft, Hams impressed in just his two senior games with his courage and attack a standout feature of his game and those traits are something that the coaches hope he will bring to Friday’s hit-out.

Hams is joined by Jayden Laverde, Mark Baguley and Paul Chapman in the squad set to take on the Demons on Friday evening, with Mitch Clisby, James Polkinghorne, James Magner and Sam Michael making way for the four players.

Yet to register a win in the NAB Challenge series, Hird is hoping for a drastic improvement on last week’s performance after being easily accounted for by the GWS Giants.

“We’d love a win,” said Hird.

“The first half (last week) was unacceptable, particularly around the contest. We want a much better effort, so we’ve brought in four new players.”
