Midfielder David Myers has suffered a dislocated left shoulder and will undergo further testing to determine the full extent of the injury.

The 25-year-old lasted just five minutes of the round one contest at ANZ Stadium on Saturday before coming off second best in a clash with Swans big man Kurt Tippett at a centre-bounce contest.

Myers had to be helped from the field by club medicos and was taken down the players' race before being substituted out of the game.

Essendon coach James Hird confirmed post-game that Myers had suffered a dislocation.

"He has dislocated his shoulder, it came out all the way," Hird said after the Dons’ last-gasp loss to the Swans.

"I'm not sure we are talking about a reconstruction just yet but they've got to assess it, do some scans and just see exactly where it is.

"Hopefully it is not a reconstruction because that is sort of four or five months (on the sidelines), but we will wait and see."

Myers made his debut in 2008 but after five injury-plagued seasons, has become a valuable player for the Bombers. He managed a career-high 20 games in 2013 and backed that up with 18 last season.

The midfielder’s booming left foot kick has become an attacking weapon for Hird’s men.
