A solid week of training is set improve the Bombers’ ball use after making a number of costly skill errors last week, according to VFL assistant coach Paul Corrigan.

“It’s been a really good week on the track just having those extra days has allowed the boys to touch the football a lot and we’ve been able to get a lot of craft sessions into the guys as well, which you probably miss a little bit over those six day breaks.

“The boys have been really good on the track and hopefully it shines out on the weekend.”

At 2-3, the VFL side sit in a similar position to their AFL counterparts.

“We’ve played some good footy at times and been a little inconsistent at other times so hopefully this week we can bring a consistent four-quarter effort from the entire team and hopefully get the win against Northern on Saturday,” Corrigan said.

The midfield battle against the Northern Blues will be crucial, as the Bombers look to give their forwards regular opportunities throughout the afternoon.

“They’re pretty strong throughout the midfield.

“They’ve had Warnock playing down there and they’ve got other strong midfielders as well, so we’re going to have to get our hands on the footy first.

“Hopefully we can get it forward quickly enough and get our forwards one out with their opponents and score enough from there.”

Tayte Pears looked threatening on limited game time last week as he continues to edge towards full-fitness.

Corrigan revealed the defender-turned-forward will continue to spend time in attack.

“Tayte will probably spend majority of his time forward.

“It was really good to see him get through last week, so hopefully he can back that up this week with another solid performance and just continue injury free for the remainder of the season.

“He’s worked hard on his rehab when he was out, so it would be really nice for Pears to have a really good run free of injury.”

With the Bombers travelling to Preston City Oval, fans can once again tune into the Essendon VFL live radio Saturday afternoon– the broadcast will kick off at 1.55pm.

“The Bomber fans can listen to the VFL radio and they can get an understanding of the players up and coming up through the VFL that might get AFL opportunity in the coming weeks.”
