Essendon forward Jake Carlisle will miss the next four to six weeks after injuring his ankle in the final seconds of the match against Hawthorn.

Carlisle’s leg became entangled with Hawk Jarryd Roughead in the last play of the game.

“His foot got trapped and he rolled it,” Club Doctor Bruce Reid said.

“His actual ligaments that you’d normally strain are fine but unfortunately he’s separated the front ligaments between the tibia and the fibula – which is called the syndesmosis – so he’s got a tear of the front of that.

“We expect him to miss four to six weeks.”

The injury doesn’t require surgery.

The 23 year old kicked three goals and took eight marks against the Hawks.
