VFL midfielder James Polkinghorne is expected to play a big part in the VFL Dons’ remaining five matches as they continue their charge towards a 2015 finals birth.

The ex-Brisbane Lion has been outstanding this year in his first season with Essendon VFL.

The 26-year-old has played all bar one match, averaging almost 20 disposals including more than four inside 50s a game.

“Polky has had years experience as an AFL-listed player and he’s really bringing that to our midfield,” VFL Co-Coach Paul Corrigan said.

Polkinghorne was again among the Bombers better players in the stunning come-from-behind victory against the Cats, gathering 23 disposals as well as booting a goal.

“He’s another leader of ours, he demands it on the field and of his teammates and that’s what we love about him,” Corrigan said.

Corrigan said the addition of Polkinghorne to the side has produced a midfield that has the potential to take Essendon VFL deep into September action.

“It’s so handy to create that depth throughout the midfield and have those rotations,” he said.

You can catch Essendon VFL LIVE on Channel Seven from 11.30am this Sunday as they take on Footscray Bulldogs ahead of the AFL side taking on the Western Bulldogs from 3.20pm.
