The review in to Essendon's Football Department is reaching its final stages and there is cause for excitement according to one of the men involved in the process.

Neale Daniher was enlisted by the Club to help determine how the Football Department could be improved.

The former Melbourne Coach said there were some positives themes to emerge from the analysis.

“There is some great people at Essendon,” Daniher told Fox Footy.

“It’s a shame when things aren’t working and it was a shame for James (Hird).

“I’m also optimistic it’s not just about the Coach.

“Essendon has got to have a look at the whole department.  They’ve done that, they know what the issues are and they’ll get it right.”

The Bombers were out of the 2015 finals race when they initiated the review.

It’s the first season the Club has failed to qualify for the finals since 2012.

“It’s exciting for them, there is a fresh start,” Daniher said.

“The Club had to do a review, they know what the issues are and they’ll put in place the right solutions.

“It really is an exciting time.”
