Essendon’s new Coach John Worsfold says he’s better prepared for the challenges the role presents this time around.

Worsfold joined the Bombers after 12 years as West Coast Coach.

In that time he took the side to eight finals campaigns and one premiership.

“I’ve got no doubt I’m way better prepared and much more knowledgeable than I was when I took over at West Coast,” Worsfold told 3AW.

“The experiences that I’ve been through over the 12 years doing that and all the things that go along with coaching that I’ve experienced and learnt about … I’m very keen to put a lot of that in place.

“I really do believe I can help the Essendon Football Club really climb back up the ladder.”

The Bombers are about to enter the trade and draft period in their strongest position in recent years.

The Club already has pick four and could add more top line picks over the next few weeks.

“Potentially we could have two or three really high draft picks where we could add some real quality in to the list,” Worsfold told AFL Trade Radio.

“That would be a priority.”

The retirements of Dustin Fletcher, Paul Chapman and Jason Winderlich have freed up list space and leave the likes of Brendon Goddard, Brent Stanton, Adam Cooney and Jobe Watson as the most experienced players on the list.

“The more senior players there have got a good couple of years left in them, so it’s not that necessary to look at adding too much mature age in to that group.  I think it’s a fairly good blend,” Worsfold said.
