The pre-season slog is only just beginning for the majority of Essendon’s senior list, but there will be some respite for the Club’s latest draftees.

The Bombers added seven new faces to their squad on Tuesday night and will add some more players in tomorrow’s Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts.

Coach John Worsfold is pleased with the talent the Club has secured, but will give the teenage recruits time to settle in.

“Up until Christmas we’ll just take it pretty quiet with them, just get them into the program and get them through to the Christmas break feeling comfortable with the program they’ve got,” he said.

“Then it will ramp up fairly quickly after Christmas.

“Generally they do about 75 per cent of the full program.”

Last year’s draftees, Kyle Langford and Jayden Laverde played 17 games between them in 2015 and Zach Merrett already has 37 games to his name after only two seasons in the big time.

Despite the heavily monitored program the Club’s latest draftees will undertake, Worsfold said they all have the ability to make an immediate impression.

“They could be up for selection at any point during the year, I think they’re all talented enough, but a lot of that will depend on how they’re tracking physically,” he said.

“Its (the draft) filled a lot of needs we were looking for and it gives us a chance to sit back and work out a strategy for our pre-season and rookie picks.

“We’re really pleased with the position we’re in.”
