Essendon Football Club has today been fined $200,000 after pleading guilty to two breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The Club has also been ordered to pay costs of $20,000 by the Melbourne Magistrates Court.

“We understand this is a very serious matter and take responsibility for the governance failings of the Club during 2011-2012,” Essendon Chairman Lindsay Tanner said.

"We are a vastly different Essendon Football Club compared to 2012, and we have implemented significant governance, compliance and integrity reforms across our organisation."

The Club will not make any further comment.
