Travis Colyer is looking to improve his inside game as he prepares for the 2017 season.

The 25 year old will be looking to play his first game for the Club in 621 days when the Bombers run out against Hawthorn in round one.

Colyer’s line-breaking speed was a constant threat to the opposition throughout the first half of 2015.

He booted 11 goals and had 14 running bounces in 11 games before a foot problem ended his season.

Colyer expects to feature on a wing and across half forward this year but his inside game has received some increased attention in recent months.

“I think it will be a variety of roles – some half forward and wing and my next sort of development is to hopefully be able to play a little more inside mid,” he told SEN.

“I’ve been working on my stoppage craft to try to improve in that area.

“As the year goes on it’s going to be pretty tough to be able to play week in week out through the midfield or down forward with the variety of guys so versatility is probably key for me.”

The Dons midfield will be bolstered by the return of Dyson Heppell, Brent Stanton, Jobe Watson, Ben Howlett, David Myers, Heath Hocking and Colyer.

The players have also received guidance from two-time Brownlow Medal winner Greg Williams throughout the pre-season.

“It has been fantastic to have ‘Diesel’ down – he’s popping in two or three days a week on the main skills (sessions) and it’s just giving a bit of game knowledge and insights into particular players and the group,” Colyer said.

“He’s been really good, he’s not afraid to say it how it is and speak up whether it’s in a meeting or around the track.

“It might be one or two things that someone might pick up but his willingness to get involved in the group is something that has been really awesome.”
