After 18-months on the sidelines, David Myers is in contention to return to the Bombers side to take on Melbourne on Sunday.

Myers made a return to football in the VFL game against Collingwood last week and was a major contributor to the game.

He finished with 35 disposals, eight marks, seven tackles and one goal.

“He (Myers) was outstanding on the weekend, so he absolutely deserves to be looked at,” Coach John Worsfold said.

“It’s one of those hard things to judge. He’s missed more football than most over the last two years.

“He bounced out really well on the weekend but it is something we will take into account (in deciding) whether he is ready to step straight into a full AFL hit out this week or not.”

After the 18-point win against Collingwood on Tuesday, Essendon has a five day turnaround before facing Melbourne.

“They’ve (Essendon players) pulled up really well. We obviously monitored them immediately post-game and in the next 48 hours," Worsfold said.

“All indications are that they have pulled up well.

“We are lucky in that we have a really healthy squad overall, so we have a lot of players that played extremely well on the weekend and deserve to be under consideration, regardless of a short turnaround.”

The Demons won their opening two games of the season, but have lost their last three including two games by less than 14 points.

“Melbourne have been a really competitive team this year,” Worsfold said.

“They are a team that are quite rightly aiming pretty high this year. They are aiming to be one of the really improving sides and I think we’ve seen that,” Worsfold said.

“It’s a great opportunity to see where we sit.”
