David Zaharakis has praised the Bombers added midfield depth following the 61-point win over West Coast on Sunday.

The Dons had seven midfielders record 20 or more possessions throughout the match.

Zach Merrett led the way with 37, while Watson (30), Goddard (28) and Zaharakis (31) were also prominent.

The side has been boosted by the more regular bursts of Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti and Orazio Fantasia through the middle of ground in recent weeks.

David Myers' output has improved steadily in his three games this season and Darcy Parish picked up 17 disposals and kicked a goal on the weekend.

“Our midfield depth is building this year, we’re having a lot more rotations through there,” Zaharakis said.

“That’s enabled us to keep a lot of speed in the game.”

Essendon kicked five goals to two in the opening term against West Coast before the lead was stretched to 55 points at the main change.

The Dons kicked seven goals to five after the break to eventually run out 61-point winners.

“It’s nice to get a win and hold a big lead,” Zaharakis said.

“Obviously against Geelong last week we let them back in the game in the last quarter.

“Yesterday we held it throughout the whole game and that was a positive.

“It was great to sustain that effort but we’re still building.

“We’ve got a lot of improvement in us but it was good to be on the right path yesterday.”

Zaharakis has been a key figure in the Dons recent wins, collecting 31 possessions against the Cats and the Eagles.

Prior to that he’d averaged 18 disposals across the first seven games of the season, but a chat with in-form defender Michael Hurley helped turn his form around.

“I’ve played with Hurls since we were 15 and we had a great little chat and he just reminded me of the great footy I can play," Zaharakis said.

“I wasn’t necessarily stressed about my spot, I knew I wasn’t playing good footy.

“It’s only been two weeks so hopefully a few more good performances can happen like that.”
