Impressive young Bomber Matt Guelfi has been named the 2018 Lindsay Griffiths Rising Star as the club’s highest Crichton Medal vote-getter under the age of 21 with fewer than 10 games of experience.

The midfielder debuted in round four and went on to play 15 games in the red and black, averaging 15 disposals, three marks and three tackles in a strong display of his promising talent.

After being overlooked at two drafts, Guelfi landed a place on the list when Essendon chose the versatile West Australian with pick 76 in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft.

He credits his experience playing senior football in the WAFL for his quick transition to the AFL system, where he never looked out of place.

Guelfi’s ability to be utilised in a number of positions proved extremely valuable for the Bombers throughout the year and the future looks bright for the 21-year-old.
