Essendon will look to be fairly compensated should forward Stewart Crameri go to the Western Bulldogs.

Crameri has received a lucrative offer from the Bulldogs, but List Manager Adrian Dodoro said there needed to be a fair outcome for both parties.

“Stewart has received a huge offer from the Bulldogs but we’re still going to do our best to try and retain him,” Dodoro said.

“It looks like that may not occur. So we’re now having discussions with the Bulldogs at the moment and seeing whether we can get a fair outcome for both parties.

“We certainly don’t want to lose him.”

Dodoro said Crameri had also attracted interested from a number of other clubs.

Speaking after the first official day of the AFL Trade Period, Dodoro said the club was considering prospects such as Collingwood star Heath Shaw.

“You have to look at every possibility,” Dodoro said.

“We’ve had a chat with Heath but it will be difficult because we don’t have a first or second round pick this year from a trade perspective.

“At the moment, Heath is in contract and we don’t have an early pick to get that deal done.

“Having said that if we could work the deal, we’d like to do it.”
