David Myers has been named as Essendon’s Most Improved Player for 2018 at the Crichton Medal on Thursday evening.

Myer’s received the award, voted by the match committee, as the player who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence after showing clear improvement from previous seasons and a willingness to go above and beyond.

After playing just five games in the first half of the season, Myers returned to the side impressively in round 12 against Brisbane and never looked back.

The remainder of the year proved fruitful for the 29-year-old as his mix of grunt and class became vital for the side’s ever-improving midfield.

After being voted into the leadership group for the first time this season, the on-baller put forward arguably his best season to date since his debut in 2008.

Myers recorded career-best averages for clearances, inside-50s, contested possessions and goal assists in 2018, also proving his class in front of goal with 10 goals.

To claim the award at the age of 29 is a significantly positive appraisal from the match committee and it appears there are exciting times ahead for the senior Bomber.
