Few Bombers have shown more composure on debut than sweeping defender Jordan Ridley did in the Country Game on Saturday.

Ridley gathered 25 disposals (at 80 per cent efficiency), seven marks and five rebound-50s in an outstanding display in the blistering 34-point victory over Geelong, but was determined to praise the entire team.

“I was a bit worried coming to the game whether I’d get one touch or not, so it ended up pretty well,” Ridley said post-match.

“It’s a credit to how the team played and the pressure up the field made it that much easier for me to get the ball.

“I think our intent and our desire to really hunt and tackle the opposition was outstanding today and made it a lot easier for us backs to pick the ball off and then go forward again.”

After a difficult period for the club the Bombers were set a task against the Cats, but Ridley said the team was confident it could fight back.

“I think our intent and our desire to really hunt and tackle the opposition was outstanding today and made it a lot easier for us backs to pick the ball off and then go forward again,” he said.

“In the AFL, it’s a really close competition, so any given week you can win.

“I think we had a real belief in the group that we still could produce something like that and the result took care of itself in the end.”

Ridley’s mum Robyn said before the game that Jordan’s debut would be a dream come true for the 19-year-old.

“He’s just been waiting for this moment. Since he was a little kid, he’s been wanting to run around on the MCG so it’s just exciting for everyone,” she said.

Ridley was thrilled to run onto the hallowed turf in the red and black for the first time and said it was great to have his family and partner by his side.

“It was an unreal feeling just being out there with all the fans, it’s just so loud and such a big stadium,” he said.

“I think all of them have been such good support for me through the years.

“They probably ended up being much more nervous than me before the game, but yeah it was so good to have them there to share the moment with them.”
