Essendon stars Jobe Watson and Brent Stanton have both suffered injuries in Sunday's game against Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.

Skipper Watson suffered a suspected shoulder injury during the first quarter and was subbed out.

Watson left the ground after the Power's Justin Westhoff bumped him in a contest in the middle for a ground ball and went straight down into the rooms. The bump was fair as both players collided shoulder to shoulder.

Watson reappeared on the bench soon after to accept the red substitute vest and immediately had ice applied to his left shoulder.

Stanton grabbed at his lower leg after a contest late in the second quarter. He battled on before leaving the ground.

After attempting a couple of run-throughs along the boundary with the Bombers' physio, Stanton looked disappointed and headed down to the rooms with Dr Bruce Reid.

Stanton returned to the field in the third quarter.

Watson was cheered whenever he gained possession, the crowd responding to the boos the 2012 Brownlow medallist had received when the Bombers played West Coast the week before.

Speedster Travis Colyer replaced Watson who had gathered four disposals to that point. The captain joined his teammates at the quarter-time huddle but was nursing his left arm.
