The AFL’s trade period is officially underway and will remain open until Thursday October 19.

Jake Stringer (Western Bulldogs), Devon Smith (GWS) and Adam Saad (Gold Coast) have expressed their desire to join the Bombers.

Here is the latest from General Manager of Football Rob Kerr following meetings with rival clubs.

Jake Stringer:

“We caught up with his manager today and he’s nominating Essendon as the Club he’d like to join.

“We had a good discussion with the Western Bulldogs.

“We understand their position – there is a bit of a gap at the moment and a bit of work to do on that one.

“But we feel if things go we well we can help bridge that gap.”

Devon Smith:

“Devon has played over 100 games of AFL footy.

“He’s a smart forward who can also spend a fair bit of time in the midfield.

“He’s quick and his pressure isn’t too bad either when you do the research on that side of the game.

“He’d bring some pace and class to our group … you’re always looking to add in those areas and he’d certainly fit the bill.

“He’s a good ball winner and a good clean user of the ball.”

Adam Saad:

“Our first discussion today was with Gold Coast and we put a proposal to them.

“They’ll go and have a think about that and see where that sits as far as they’re concerned.

“Adam is an exciting, running defender who, when asked to, can lock down.

“With James Kelly going out, he could come in and walk straight into that role for us.

“Combine him with Conor (McKenna) back there and it provides you with a fair bit of run from defence, hence our desire to include Adam in the Club’s list.”
