The rules:

Essendon and Gold Coast will have eight players on the bench with unlimited rotaions.

A nine point Supergoal will be awarded for goals outside the 50 metre arc.

Quarters in the first three weeks of the competition will be 20 minutes with the first 15 minutes having no time-on. Quarters will revert to normal length in the last week of the competition.

The third man up in ruck contests in now banned.

A stricter interpretation of the rushed behind rule will be applied. During the pre-season when a deliberate rushed behind occurs, a ball up will take place 14 metres out from goal.

There will be a modified interpretation of the high tackle rule with play-on called if the ball carrier contributes to the high contact.

Gates Open:

Gates open at 1pm with a curtain raiser game between Mackay City Hawks and the Yeppoon Swans.
