The AFL's latest rising star, Darcy Parish says he’s tried to model his game on All-Australian and teammate Dyson Heppell.

Parish was awarded the round two NAB Rising Star nomination after collecting 21 possessions and kicking the sealer against Melbourne on the weekend.

It followed a 25-possession performance against Gold Coast in round one for the high prized pick, who the Bombers secured with their first selection at last November’s National Draft.

“Dys is someone I looked up to before I came to Essendon and to learn off him in the first couple of months here at the Club was super,” Parish said.

“It’s disappointing to lose the likes of ‘Heps’ and Jobe because I was learning so much from them in the couple of months since I’d met them.

“It’s obviously great to get the likes of Crowley, Kelly and Simpkin around the midfield – I’ve been learning off them ever since they’ve come in.

“They’ve got so much knowledge and experience around the game and I’m just trying to get as much as I can off them.”

Parish will this Friday head back to the city where Coach John Worsfold announced he'd be the next player to 'Don the Sash', when the Bombers travel to take on Port Adelaide on Friday night.

He said the team has gained a lot of confidence after the win over the Demons in front of 50,424 people.

“I’ve never played in front of that many people before,” he said.

“I enjoyed playing in front of them, it was great all of the supporters got down and supported us and I’m very thankful.

“Coming into the season there was a few people out there saying we’re not even going to win a game this season, so to prove those people wrong in round two was unbelievable.

“There was a great feeling after the game.  All of the boys were pumped up, it’s obviously great and hopefully we can get a few more (wins) throughout the year.

“With our best footy I reckon we can match it with anyone, so it gives us that belief and confidence going into each week – so I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
