John Worsfold is excited about his first chance to experience the ANZAC Day clash as Bombers Coach next Monday.

Essendon and the Pies will meet for the 22nd time in the annual blockbuster game.

A massive feature of the AFL fixture, the game provides players, coaches and fans with a ‘finals-like’ atmosphere.

Despite his long involvement in football, this will be the first time that Worsfold will have a direct involvement in the game – and something that he believes will be an amazing experience.

“It is very exciting,” Worsfold said.

“I’ve only ever been to one ANZAC Day game in my time in footy, and it was a really proud moment to be in the crowd and watch the game.

“I’ll be super proud to be representing the Essendon Football Club on Monday.”

It will be a special occasion for a number of players who will also be able to take part in the big day.

Darcy Parish, Matthew Leuenberger, Michael Hartley, Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti and Craig Bird could all be experiencing the game for the first time in their careers.

But the game will also offer the opportunity to some of the older players in the group, such as James Kelly, Mathew Stokes and Matt Dea to be part of something that they would never have had the opportunity to in their previous football lives.

The Bombers will head into Monday’s game full of confidence after a proud performance against the Cats in Round 4.
