Essendon Coach John Worsfold has praised Brendon Goddard for his leadership and expects the best and fairest winner to play with the Club in 2017.

Goddard was named Captain earlier this year and hasn’t missed a game this season.

He’s ranked number two for possessions and is in the top three for metres gained and contested possessions.

The 283 game veteran is out of contract at the end of the year.

“I’d love to have him here again next year for sure,” Worsfold said.

“I’m pretty confident that will all happen.

“I’ve been really pleased with Brendon’s leadership.  He’s a professional, he knows the game, and his on-field coaching of the team has been outstanding.

“We’ve got a young group that hasn’t played a lot of footy together, they get confused out on the ground, they don’t see it as well as he sees it.

“He has got a great ability to lead and coach on the field and he’s been doing that brilliantly.”

Goddard has played 78 games (out of a possible 81) for the Bombers since joining the Club at the end of 2012.
