Essendon ruckman Tom Bellchambers has returned to the club just a fortnight after surgery to his injured left ankle.

Bellchambers took part in a weights session at the True Value Solar Centre on Monday morning as he begins his recovery from surgery.

Club doctor Bruce Reid said the 24-year-old was continuing to track well during his rehabilitation.

“Tommy is just coming up two and a half weeks roughly and he can now weight bear on the ankle,” Reid said.

“He will be in the pool from now on and the physiotherapists will start to mobilise the ankle.”

“Basically as he walks around he will wear a boot for three weeks then we will start to weight bear and get him mobilised whether that is on the bike or in the pool.”

Reid said the Bombers big man had displayed a positive attitude since the surgery.

“Tommy has been very good as he is normally very impatient but I think he knows he is going to be out for a few weeks this time.”

“He is just really keen, if we say he is going to play in twelve then he wants to play in ten or if we say he can walk at three weeks he wants to walk at two weeks.”

“He is well motivated and just wants to be out there.”

Bellchambers is the only major injury blow for the Bombers this pre-season.

Midfielder Dyson Heppell will sit out this week of training after suffering back spasms at training.
