There has been a heavy focus on the midfield contest this week at training in preparation for Saturday's game against Richmond.

The extra work comes after the Saints dominated clearances, particularly in the middle finishing with 20 to the Bombers 6.

Coaches have rotated younger players like Darcy Parish, Kyle Langford and Zach Merrett through the midfield with Worsfold signalling that this will continue to be the case throughout the season.

Worsfold believed that while they may not show immediate results, the experiences they have this season will be crucial to their development in the future.

“This week we’ve worked a little bit on clearance work, stoppages,” said Worsfold

“We want to keep developing our younger players through there.

“The more time they spend in there with some of our senior players, the better they’re going to get to know each other and work together.”

Ryan Crowley is one of those senior players who will hopefully be able to assist his younger teammates around the stoppages this week against the Tigers.

The veteran returns to the team and will likely spend time both in the midfield and up forward.

“His experience will help the squad, no doubt,” said Worsfold

“He gives us great run, he’s a really good runner, a good athlete – so he’ll cover the territory that we need him to cover both as a forward and also as a mid.”

It’s another blockbuster game this weekend as the Bombers and Tigers run out in the annual Dreamtime at the 'G.

Now in it’s 12th year, the match pays tribute to all the wonderful past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players, their culture and their importance to the game.

A total of 13 Essendon players will play in their first ever Dreamtime at the 'G, in what will no doubt be a special night.

While it may not be a final, the big crowd - in combination with the significance of the night, creates an atmosphere and experience that Worsfold believes is an important aspect in the development of the young Bombers.

“The game that players always look forward to are finals, that’s probably the first thing, other big blockbuster games and top of the table clashes,” said Worsfold

“That’s our aim – to expose the players –at the moment we’re getting some exposure via some blockbuster games.

“But in the near future we want them to be exposed to top of the table clashes and then finals.”
