Essendon will have no trouble finding the energy and motivation to compete with Collingwood this weekend, according to the Club’s all-time leading goal kicker Matthew Lloyd.

The Bombers will be looking for their sixth win of the season to end a tough year on a positive note.

“You just know that you’ve got six or eight weeks off, so it’s actually a game you really get up for,” Lloyd said.

“It’s more the grind from rounds 15 to 20 that can be quite difficult but once you see the end in sight you’re pretty excited.

“Hopefully they can run Collingwood down to the wire who had a good game last week against Geelong.”

Paul Chapman (retired), Courtenay Dempsey (suspended), Michael Hibberd and Nick O’Brien (both injured) will miss the match.

With a number of senior players already sidelined, Essendon’s playing stocks are severely depleted.

But Lloyd expects the players that do represent the Club to give a good account of themselves.

“Some fans may think do we want the four points, do we want to go above certain teams but I know dealing with the players I work with they’re just really desperate to win another game,” Lloyd said.

“There is nothing better than beating Collingwood.

“I know in previous years where I’ve been in weak sides, if you can beat Carlton or you can beat Collingwood, it’s always a nice year.

“It would be nice to go out on a good note and give the fans something to celebrate at the end a long, hard year.”
