Mark Jamar started deep in the Essendon forward line, opposed to Jeremy McGovern.  Joe Daniher has Will Schofield for company, Tom Barrass is lining up on Mitch Brown and Sam Butler has Orazio Fantasia.

At the other end of the ground in Essendon's defence Michael Hartley is lining up on Josh Kennedy, James Gwilt is on Mitch Brown and Matt Dea is on Jack Darling.

Essendon won the first four centre breaks.  It was a bright start for the Bombers with the visitors spending the first 2:30 in the their attacking half.  The Bombers kicked two goals during this period, before the Eagles answered with their first forward 50 entry.

Turnovers hurt the Bombers through the middle stages of the quarter.  The Eagles caused four Essendon turnovers during this time, kicking 1.2.8.  

Courtenay Dempsey and Joe Daniher kicked important goals to stem the tide.

Essendon dominated the clearances (14-6) with Craig Bird (12) and Zach Merrett (9) the major ball winners.
