Essendon Football Club’s list is in good shape, according to outgoing coach James Hird.

Despite a number of disappointing results this season, Hird said he believes Essendon’s list can make significant inroads in the near future.

“I think this group can go a long way,” Hird said.

“It will probably take 18 months to two years to really be a challenge again because we’ve lost some experience and there will be some players retiring, but I don’t think it’s too far away.”

Kyle Langford and Jayden Laverde have been among the impressive youngsters blooded this season, while Joe Daniher and Zach Merrett have made exciting improvements in their second year.

Essendon will look to the draft as it continues to build its rejuvenation back to the top.
