Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd has predicted the club will win at least one final in 2014 under coach Mark Thompson.

The Bombers have not moved beyond the first week of finals since Kevin Sheedy was in charge in 2004.

Lloyd has predicted the club will have its most successful season in over a decade.

“I think definitely the team will win a final,”

“It’s just whether they can move any further down the track and hopefully be in that last four, I think they’re capable of it.”

Lloyd believes the Bombers could have won a preliminary final had they been allowed to play finals in 2013.

"Had things not transpired they way they did last year I think the Bombers would have finished anywhere from fourth to sixth.”

“They probably could have got to preliminary final weekend if everything went right.”

Essendon kicks off its home and away season against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on March 21.
