Essendon Football Club hosted the inaugural Spring Street Bombers event on Wednesday night with over 50 members of parliament and staff joining Essendon directors and executive for a cocktail function in the gardens outside Parliament House.

High profile Essendon supporters including the Hon. Daniel Andrews, Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Louise Asher, Minister for Innovation and the Hon. Hugh Delahunty, Minister for Sport and Recreation, Minister for Veteran Affairs were all in attendance.

The guest list also included brothers Simon and Justin Madden and current players Jake Melksham and Nick O'Brien. 

Past player and Minister for Sport and Recreation, Minister for Veteran Affairs The Hon. Hugh Delahunty, said the event was a great initiative by the club.

"Being involved at the Essendon Football Club as a player was a fantastic springboard for my career," Delahunty said.

"It's a great club and the Spring Street Bombers is a terrific initiative so that all fans here in Parliament House can feel a part of our club. "

Essendon chairman Paul Little said he hoped the event would become an annual function.

"It was great to be able to address the Essendon supporters from Parliament and provide them with an update on what is happening at the Club," Little said

"We are all really excited about the future of our Club and I hope the members of the Spring St Bombers share that enthusiasm after spending the evening with us."
