Edmund Richards became an Essendon member for the first time in 1984. Every year, for the next 28 years, he has remained a proud and passionate member of his beloved Bombers. Last year, he was unable to attend games and begrudgingly let his membership lapse.

Richards admits this didn’t sit comfortably with him anyway, but when he heard about the events of the last month, he quickly decided it was time to show his support once again, regardless of whether or not he could attend games.

‘It was really because of the unjustified criticism. There has been no evidence of any wrongdoing and I’ve been disappointed about the speculation before the investigation has even begun,’ he said.

‘I just want to support the team and I will support them regardless of the outcome. I’m happy to do whatever it takes to help the club during this time’

Richards, who grew up in Essendon and was a member of the Essendonians coterie group from 1984 to 2000, believes the club is in good hands and heading in the right direction.

‘Essendon is trying to improve the whole time. James Hird and Bomber Thompson are doing a fantastic job and I see a strong future at the club,’ he said

‘It’s particularly important for all Essendon people to show their support at this time and there is no better response from supporters than if they sign up as members.’
