Midfielder Brendon Goddard is confident the team delivered a number of key goals on their recent high altitude camp to Boulder, Colorado.

Goddard joined 24 teammates on the camp involving hikes, running, weights and skill sessions in altered conditions.

“It was very cold but it was a good camp in the end and we achieved what we wanted to achieve with both our football and fitness objectives,” Goddard said.

“For a few of the boys waking up on the Wednesday morning and seeing about six inches of snow as a few of the guys from Western Australia in particular hadn’t seen snow before.”

“That novelty wore off after a few days and it just makes life so much harder in terms of when you go out what you put on your body.”

The Crichton Medalist said since returning to Melbourne the difference in the air had been noticeable at training.

“The air is a bit easier to breath and it doesn’t feel like you are sucking air through a straw,” he said.

“You feel the difference when you do come back and train but in terms of benefits I think it is different for every individual and that can be in two weeks or six weeks depending on the individual.”

“I love being able to get away in an elite environment for two and a half weeks, spend time with the boys and find things out about each other you probably wouldn’t back here in Australia.”

Goddard was full of praise for the training of Travis Colyer, Leroy Jetta, Dylan Can Unen and Alex Browne during the training camp.

“They are some real positives going forward,” he said.

“I think most lists that is where the improvement comes from that younger half of the group so that is where we will be looking to make improvements this year.”

The 28-year-old returned from the training camp early due to a calf injury but he is expected return to full training following the Christmas break.
