Essendon forward Alwyn Davey has been ruled out of Saturday afternoon’s match against Brisbane after suffering a minor hamstring strain in Friday night’s loss to Geelong.

Davey was subbed out of the game against Geelong late in the third quarter after feeling tightness in his hamstring.

“Alwyn Davey came off the ground with a tight hamstring, it is the lowest grade hamstring you can do,” Steve Alessio told BomberTV.

“The scans are pretty good but it is a low grade hamstring so he will probably miss one or two weeks.”

“The defensive pressure in the forward line he has been able to apply has been great so we will certainly miss him but it provides another opportunity for another player.”

Courtenay Dempsey and Brent Stanton are both in line to return for the match against Brisbane at Etihad Stadium pending fitness test at training through the week.

Dempsey missed the match against Geelong with a sore ankle but is expected to prove his fitness at training throughout the week.

“His ankle was a bit sore before last week’s game so we didn’t want to risk him considering the important role he plays in the team,” Alessio said.

“He will train during the week and if he gets through hopefully he will be available for against Brisbane.”

Stanton will also be taking to the training track in a bid to play against the Lions after hurting his groin against GWS in Round 6.

“Stants has come through his treatment pretty well, we would be looking to train him all week and if he can stand up to the rigours of training this week he will be available for this week’s game,” Alessio said.

Alessio said with only three players on the injury list the pressure was continue to rise on those trying to keep their spot in the senior team each week.

“When you have a healthy list it keeps pressure on the existing players in terms of holding their position which is great as it means we can field our best team week in, week out,” he said.
