Veteran defender Dustin Fletcher has given his strongest indication yet that he will play on in 2014 in a wide-ranging interview on the club’s television show The Hangar airing at 9pm tonight on FOX Footy.

The 38-year-old last weekend equalled Simon Madden as Essendon’s all time games record holder and will pass Madden’s record of 378 matches when he returns from suspension to take on the Tigers in Round 23.

Fletcher, out of contract at the end of this season, has played 13 games in this his 21st season in the AFL.

“I would love to be a part of the team next year but we will just have to see how the next few games go,” Fletcher told The Hangar.

Fletcher is confident in the current teams direction believing they are on the verge of achieving something special.

“You look at a team and you look at a spine of the team the way footy is played with our midfield, we have a midfield that can compete with the best teams in the competition,” he said.

“We are lucky enough to have seven or eight good talls that can hold those key positions down and in the ruck with Paddy and Tommy I think we have a good basis.”

“If I am still doing my bit well then I would like to go on and see how I go next year but time will tell and we will wait and see how this year unfolds.”

During tonight’s interview Fletcher also discusses his toughest opponent, his favourite memories form his 21 years in football and his ongoing relationship with former coach Kevin Sheedy.

Some of the games biggest names share their thoughts on the Essendon champion in tonight’s special episode including Wayne Carey, Jason Dunstall, Kevin Barlett and Matthew Lloyd.

Tonight is a not to be missed episode of The Hangar from 9pm on FOX Footy.
