General Manger of Football Operations Paul Hamilton says there is an air of excitement among the playing group at pre-season training despite the sessions proving to be both physically and mentally tough.

“It is clear the boys are eager to train and work hard and while everyone knows there is a lot of hard work to be done, there is a great deal of excitement within the club and high level of enthusiasm with the introduction of the new coaching panel,” Hamilton said.

Recent Bomber recruit Mark Williams is back into full pre-season training after losing eight kilograms over the break and recovering from a persistent ankle injury.

Hamilton says he is pleased with Williams’ progress and impressed by his personal training over his break from AFL.

“We’d love to see a good year for him in 2011 and it’s important for him too,” Hamilton told Bomber.tv.

He’s working hard at his training and has his diet is on track so we are happy with his progress and we hope it can continue.”

Williams is hoping to make a big impact within the team this upcoming season and complete his first full-pre season with the Bombers.

Promising left-footer David Myers is resting a stress reaction in his foot, with the Bomber looking at up to four weeks of rest.

“Myers’ stress reaction was more to do with his training in the off season and he is working with the sports podiatrist at the moment to ensure a full recovery,” Hamilton said.

At the moment he can do light training on the bike and in the pool, but in terms of getting out there and running, it’d be about 4 weeks at least”.

Young-gun David Zaharakis is said to be recovering well from his medial ligament injury from last year, training hard under the watchful eye of coach James Hird.

“At the moment Zaka is working on basic skills and a light training regime, but he is on track for full scale training in the next fortnight or so,” Hamilton said.
