Twenty-two-year-old Jay Nash enjoyed his best season at the Bombers in 2008 and the fans’ report card rating reflected that.

The South Australian played 21 games this season to take his games-played total to 41. Nash was given a 6.08/10 rating by the fans, up from 5.82/10 last year and 5.04/10 in 2006.

He was pick 28 in 2003 draft and made his debut in 2005 but, until this year, has been held back by injuries.

Here is what some of the fans had to say about Nash’s 2008 season:

Joseph Attard - Jay Nash had a passable year where he contributed but didn't do anything to significant. He currently is a borderline player that needs to lift into third gear because I know he has it in him.

John Poke - Jay has made a really great contribution to the team in 2008. He has re-established himself and is definitely part of the team in the back half. It has been great to see him develop during the past couple of seasons. With his pace and strength he will become a great player in the future. Well done.

Graham Flynn - Impressive run off the backline and a great kick. Improved significantly this season.

Matt Milburn - A consistent and under-rated performer in 2008 yet the fact he garnered some Brownlow votes speaks volumes for his key role in the Essendon defensive strategy.

Rod Ansell - Good consistent year from Jay. His run from defence and disposal are features of his game. His influence was diminished later in the year with injuries to key defenders meaning he had to play on bigger/stronger opponents. Now that Jay has set the standard he must ensure he continues to improve his game.

Joshua Little - Worked hard all year and provided much needed run off the backline to help the Bombers get back on the winners list. Will need to be a little more consistent in 2009 and learn how to shut down his man as well as getting plenty of the ball. Well done on a good year!

Bill Griffiths - Jay had a reasonably solid year. The next steps involve more committed tackling rather than corralling; more confidence in overhead marking; and fewer turnovers particularly by foot.

James Brown - Had his best season this year. He is a great kick of the footy, and never lets me down. In my best 22 for sure. Shows some real leadership on the field and always does his job. He isn't a gun, but he is a very solid contributor. Love him!

Georgina Holloway - I reckon Jay had a fantastic year! Only missing one game and always used the ball well.

Ben White - I still don't know where Jay is at. He tends to be too unaccountable to play in the backline, and doesn't have the motor or conditioning to play an effective role in the midfield. Has a beautiful kick however.

Julian McGuire - Great year mopping up down back. Has a great boot. If he could improve his defensive work, would be the ultimate backman.

Alan Betts - Can get the ball and disposal is good BUT his accountability and defensive skills needs to improve considerably.

Rachelle Bransgrove - Another consistent season in defence for Nashy. His level head in defence and his accurate disposal was very important for the team.

Max Rodwell - When he is good he is very good, when he makes a mistake he looks bloody ordinary, but his mistakes are becoming less frequent. Still in our top 22.

Barry Douce - Great season Jay, keep up the good work.

Colin Duck - He appears to be developing well and should be one of our reliable all-rounders in years to come.

Cameron Gliese - Provides good rebound. His defensive side, however, is not so good. Needs to improve in that area or could possibly be used on a wing or forward flank to utilise his kicking skills.

Daniel Farrugia - One of the big improvers in 08 and found a spot across the half back line. Best field kick in the side.

Caleb Slade - A shining light that looks to only get better next year. Would love to see him in the midfield next year.

Greg Kemp - A good honest player - can be relied upon do a job and has good disposal.

Andrew Fisher - Jay really flourished late last season. Had that one great game where he picked up 30 plus disposals. Great potential and will be a star when his game flourishes.
