Essendon’s training camp on the Gold Coast wrapped up on Friday with players finishing their week of training under the sun.

The players took part in a normal training week completing skills sessions, running programs and weight sessions.

Coach James Hird said the camp provided the playing group with more than just an opportunity to work on their fitness.

“We have bought ten new players onto our list in the off-season so that is a quarter of our list that has come in and we want to integrate those guys into the group with a lot of bonding,” Hird said.

“It has also allowed us to get some good quality training in some good weather.”

“There is no secret we don’t have a great ground to train on in Melbourne at the moment as we build our new facility but being up here gives us an opportunity to train on a good ground and train properly.”

The camp provided the first opportunity for Essendon’s recruits from last week’s national draft to meet their new teammates.
