Bomber champion Matthew Lloyd is set to be inducted into the club's Hall of Fame as a Legend at next month's 2013 Season Launch and Hall of Fame Induction.

Lloyd, who retired at the end of the 2009 season with the seventh highest goal tally in VFL/AFL history with 926 goals, finished an outstanding career as a premiership player (2000), Coleman Medallist (2000, 2001 and 2003), Jim Stynes Medallist (2001) and the recipient of 12 leading goal-kicker awards for the Bombers.

Drafted to the Bombers as a 16-year-old, Lloyd would go on to become Essendon’s greatest goal-kicker and destined to be remembered as one of the game’s greatest full-forwards in history.

The former captain retired in 2009 after 270 games and booting 926 goals, as well as acquiring a lifetime legion of fans.

The Hall of Fame Induction, held at Peninsula, Central Pier Docklands on March 4, will see Lloyd and another Essendon champion inducted as a Club Legends as well as five former players and administrators to be inducted as members.

Lloyd said he was extremely humbled by the elevation.

“It is a fantastic honour. The club gave a lot to me and I gave as best as I could to the club, so it is great to be rewarded with this honour and I couldn’t be happier,” Lloyd said.

“When you’re playing, all you think about is that next game, but now being out of the game for four years, you can really reflect on your career.

“I’ve always felt like it has been a privilege to play for a club that has stood for success like the Essendon Football Club has. I played in nine finals series in the first 11 years at Essendon from 1995 to the mid 2000s so I’ve always known it as a club that has demanded success and taught us how to be as people.

“There are so many good people around us to learn from and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of the club’s journey.”

The 2013 Season Launch and Hall of Fame Induction will be held on March 4 at Peninsula, Central Pier Docklands from 6.30pm. Tickets are still available for Essendon’s major event of the year.
