Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce Travis Colyer has re-signed for a further two years.

The 22-year-old has agreed to new terms, which will see the small forward remain at the club until 2015.

Colyer has played 34 senior games since making his debut in 2010. The West Australian was drafted from Trinity College with the club’s second round selection in 2009.

Playing seven senior games this year with a standout performance against Greater Western Sydney in Round 17, Colyer said he was looking forward to cementing his spot in the club’s senior side.

“I am really excited to have been given the opportunity to sign on for a further two years with the club,” Colyer said.

“There were opportunities to continue my career elsewhere, but there are a lot of good people at Essendon and I want to be a part of the club and its push for success moving forward.”

Assistant coach Simon Goodwin said Colyer had shown plenty of promise over the last couple of years.

“Travis is a terrific young person and when given the opportunity, provides us with an exciting option up forward,” Goodwin said.

“We see a big season ahead for Travis and look forward to working closely with him over the next two years.”

List manager Adrian Dodoro said Colyer’s re-signing was a show of the club wanting to retain its own talent.

“We are continually building our list and want to see our younger players relish their senior opportunities,” Dodoro said.

“Travis turned down longer term offers from other clubs to stay loyal to Essendon and this is a further sign of our players wanting to stay at the club.

“We hope Travis can have a big pre-season campaign and develop his game further to consolidate his spot in the senior side moving forward.”
