We take a look at five burning topics ahead of this weekend's clash against GWS at Spotless Stadium.

Hurley in, but who goes out?

A big inclusion is shaping for this weekend’s match, with Michael Hurley expecting to put his hand up for selection after being a late withdrawal last weekend. Hurley is a key player in the Essendon side, and is likely to return if he proves his fitness at training. It is hard to single out a player to make way for Hurley after a spirited team performance against Richmond on the weekend. Joe Daniher, who came into the side after Hurley’s late withdrawal, played a stellar game, booting three goals. It’s all eyes on the anticipated team selection tonight!

Where will Jake Carlisle play?

The hype around the key position player intensifies after he played some stellar football down back against the Tigers last weekend. Bomber Thompson hasn’t given too much away during the week about where he will start, but with the potential Giant forward line of Jonathan Patton and Tom Boyd, there is every chance it will hinge on where the team needs him the most. Carlisle himself has said on many occasions he is happy to play where ever the team needs him.

How will the young Giants back up?

It was an enormous feat by the young Giant brigade last weekend by taking it right up to 2013 premiers, Hawthorn, unfortunately falling agonisingly short by just 7-points. After showing such a spirited performance for a loss, will the Giants find it hard to put in a similar effort? Or will it be a motivator for them and see them come out firing? Beware of the sleeping Giant come this weekend's match.

Can Ben Howlett get back on the goal-kickers list?

In a rarity Ben Howlett beat all-comers with an amazing five goals in the Dreamtime match against Richmond last weekend. It will be interesting see his role this weekend and whether he can sneak forward again and snag another bag or whether he will play a more predictable game and provide the grunt throughout midfield. Either way the hard man is in form and expect another strong performance from the 25-year-old.

Hooker to have a day out?

Cale Hooker has begun to make a habit out of chopping off the ball as it flies into defensive 50 over his career, and this year has been no exception so far. The Giants have an attack jam-packed with big forwards, including Jonathon Patton and potentially Tom Boyd, so all signs point to a solid performance from Hooker if he can clunk a mark or two early. He has been the pillar of a strong season from the defensive unit of the Bombers so far in the 2014 season.
