Essendon’s players got the ball rolling this week, taking part in the next instalment of the club’s On The Ball program with students from Catholic Regional College in North Keilor.

Luke Davis, Marty Gleeson, Will Hams and Dylan van Unen joined Melbourne Vixens netballers Shannon Eagland and Erin Hoare as part of the three-phase program for students which include a two hour visit from the elite athletes.

Students also work on a school based project that uses multimedia to raise the awareness of issues relevant to them such as depression, drug or alcohol abuse, cyber bullying and life choices.

In the next phase, students will then select their best idea and present these to a panel of athletes at Windy Hill to be in the running to win up to $1000 for their school – proudly donated by the Bendigo Bank Strathmore Community Branch.

Essendon’s commitment to the community was also sustained earlier this week, with the club launching a junior version of the On The Ball program to Grade 6 students at Essendon North Primary School. Bombers young guns Jackson Merrett and Nick O’Brien represented the club and took part in the physical activities and clinics with the primary school aged children.
