As Essendon Football Club tonight celebrates 140 years since its first match against Carlton, the changing face of the crowd will be more evident than ever with up to 500 international students and program ambassadors attending the blockbuster game as a feature of the club’s GLoBALL program. Funded by the Victorian Coalition Government, GLoBALL is an important vehicle for social inclusion, connectivity and the introduction of international students to Australia’s game.

In 2013 Essendon’s GLoBALL program offers Melbourne’s international students the opportunity to experience their first taste of AFL football via Essendon Football Club games. Matches and events are also offered by Netball Victoria and Cricket Victoria – a great opportunity for the sports mad or just sports curious to attend premier sporting events across three of Australia’s most popular sports.

Essendon Football Club Community Manager Cameron Britt says “tonight we welcome 500 international students and program ambassadors to our 140th anniversary match. This game has long been identified as a really special round for the club and for that reason we believe it presents a fantastic opportunity to host a diverse supporter group that can experience Melbourne, the MCG and the Essendon Football Club”.

The next Essendon GLoBALL game will be played during the AFL Multicultural Round, against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium. All international students are encouraged to attend and can register at www.globall.com.au
